Online Reputation Management

Online reputation management is key for an individual’s or an organization’s reputation. Online reputation management (ORM) “ is the practice of attempting to shape public perception of a person or organization by influencing online information about that entity”. I did find an excellent article that stated the top ten things you should know about ORM called, “10 Pro Online Reputation Management Tips For Local Businesses.”

My favorite part of this article was the section “You can’t opt out of ORM”. There were some great points about how the only person who can destroy your online reputation beyond repair is YOU!

“No one can damage you as seriously as you can damage yourself if you don’t know what you’re doing.”

There are ten other tips located in this article that I thought were helpful:
1. Create A Presence On Any And All Relevant Web Properties
2. Don’t Neglect Your Social Media Accounts
3. Consider Your Brands And Products
4. Protect Individuals Associated With The Business
5. Implement Authorship Where Applicable
6. Blog
7. Listen
8. Apologize
9. Don’t Get Into Online Arguments
10. Make The Investment

Or just strive to be like Jim Teece online, cool as a cucumber! 🙂
